In this backcountry elk hunting film, Brad Mason rides into the heart of the Rocky Mountains in southeast BC with his 5 horses, chasing mature bull elk in rifle season. After some immediate highs and lows with a giant bull, Brad and his horses then push themselves up into countless high-elevation basins over the span of the next 12 days. In the final days of the hunt, the Rocky Mountains release its stranglehold on a legal bull, and the hunter is awarded an opportunity for a harvest.

When it came to choosing a film/production company, Nathan Beninger of Film Our Path Media, was my obvious first choice. Having worked alongside Nathan at Kalesnikoff Lumber Co. Ltd, I had the privilege of seeing his work ethic, creativity, and appreciation to detail and quality.

A 2 week horseback expedition into British Columbia's Northern Rockies follows Brad and his team on a quest for the elusive stone sheep. On his first trip to the north, Brad leans on his seasoned herd of horses and his mentor Danny to help overcome the challenges that they face all while looking for that old and mature ram. Through rugged terrain, harsh weather, and isolation, men and horses bond facing trials together.

Dalton Pederson of Northern Son Media captures this epic journey into the north. Brad met Dalton at the Wild Sheep Society Mountain Expo in early 2025, where Dalton received Film of the Year for "King of the Mountain". After getting to know Dalton, Brad had confidence that he would be able to bring Brad's vision to life of sharing the story of his first horseback sheep hunt.
